I have been very excited about the amount of frogs in the pond. We only dug the pond a couple of years ago and it was fantastic to have our first frog arrive just two days after we filled it with water. Last year was the first spring for the pond and I counted about 8 frogs and there was quite a lot of frogspawn and loads of little tadpoles which unfortunately fell victim to the female blackbird when she was off her nest and the water boatman-like backswimmers. This year we have had up to 20 frogs and on the warm days they have been making so much noise with their calling and also splashing around the pond trying to grab anything that moves! There is so much frogspawn now I hope the pond will be large enough to support the tadpoles and they manage to avoid their predators as they grow.
